For 2016 the Chain Gang CC will be running its seventh Slea Head Challenge (formerly the Blasket Blast), offering something a little more challenging for those experienced cyclists looking for an even greater challenge.
The Slea Head Challenge is a 150km challenging route taking in the whole Dingle Peninsula. As with the Conor Pass Challenge with which it shares part of its route it departs from Meadowlands Hotel in Tralee at 9.30am running along the north coast of the Dingle Peninsula before ascending the Conor Pass and taking a refreshment stop in Dingle at Pobal Scoil Corca Duibhne.
From here the route brings riders out towards Slea Head, through the forge crossing and around the head of the peninsula before returning to Dingle for a food/water stop before continuing on to Annascaul and Inch pausing for a water stop at Inch Community Centre before the final climb of the day over Curraghmore and return to Tralee where riders will be able to avail of post ride refreshments, changing and showering facilities.
Entry to the Slea Head Challenge is now open – online entry is set at a wallet friendly €20 for Cycling Ireland licence holders and €25 for those not holding a Cycling Ireland licence. Sign on and registration will be open on the morning of the event (24 September 2016) from 8am for all routes at a cost of €30.
Entry to this route is limited to riders age 16+.
